Gold Jewellery Cleaning
Gold is known for its great look and easily retains lustre for years especially if taken care of in a right way. There are a number of effective ways in which you can clean your gold safely and enjoy its beauty for even longer. At the beginning it is worth to point out that generally the purer the gold the more vunerable for scratches and marks it is. Let us now have a look at the most common DIY way of cleaning gold jewellery at home.
Warm Soapy Wash
Quite surprisingly most of the gold jewellery at our homes can easily be cleaned in a hot dish soap. Although, most of cleaning products used in households these days are fairly safe, it is worth to bear in mind that use of bleaches and other stronger products may affect the appearance. Broadly speaking cleaning gold using this method is not really a rocket science all you need to do is get some hot water, soap it up with some dish washing liquid and put the jewellery in for a good few minutes (10-15 minutes should be enough). Once you take the gold out grab some reasonably soft brush and brush it a bit. Rinse the jewellery in clean warm water and polish nicely with soft cloth. At the end of this post you can an example of gold jewellery cleaining using that method.
Caution
Always remember that no method is universal and you must be particularly careful where for instance your piece of jewellery contains some other gems that could be easily affected by the use of chemicals. A good example of such are pearls that could lose their colour. Try to be sensible and for instance remember that diamonds could easily scratch other pieces of jewellery if placed in the same container.
Remember that if your jewellery is gold plated excessive brushing might remove the gold content and you will be left with not so pretty looking base metal. Finally, be careful and make sure your precious pieces do not go down the drain.
